What
We Can Do to Stop Assaults on Life
- Pray daily for an end to abortion and other assaults
on life. Pray for the victims, doctors and nurses, for legislators, for
clergy, for those who work in the pro-life movement, and for those who do not
realize the error of their ways.
- Read and become more informed! Click on Resources for suggested reading on various
Sanctity of Life topics.
- Use pro-life pins, decals, envelopes, bumper
stickers, T-shirts, posters, etc., encourage their use, and help
distribute them.
- Donate pro-life books and tapes to your local
libraries, schools, and colleges.
- Take part in pro-life activities such as Life
Chains, prayer vigils, literature distribution, picketing, and sidewalk
counseling.
- Attend the annual March for Life and Convention in
late January in Washington,
D.C.
- Write letters to newspapers, elected officials, and
other persons and institutions regarding respect for life. This may
sometimes be done by large groups of people all at once to create more
attention.
- Speak up with courage and charity in defense of the
defenseless in society.
- Encourage your priest, minister, or rabbi to speak
out against assaults on life.
- Find out your doctor's position on abortion and
assisted dying. Boycott doctors and hospitals not supporting a pro-life
stance.
- Find out who the local abortionists are. Let them
know your opposition to abortion. Pray for them by name.
- Take part in local projects and pro-life activities.
For information, contact your parish or local pro-life group. Join in
pro-life prayer groups or scripture or rosary services.
- Distribute pro-life literature in public places,
through the mail, on cars, etc.
- Counsel women who are tempted to have abortions or
people contemplating "aid in dying" or "assisted
suicide." Offer pregnancy
or emergency hotline numbers.
- Support local Crisis
Pregnancy Centers with donations of money, baby/maternity clothes, and
other needed items. If there is not a center near you, help to start one.
- Get on the mailing list of pro-life
organizations. Donate to them.
- Add the words "born and pre-born" at the
end of the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Vote for pro-life candidates for public office. Help
with voter education.
- Spread the word that forgiveness, healing, counseling,
and support groups are available for women and men affected by suicide or abortion.
- Spread the word about the harmful effects of
artificial contraception and abortion. Click on One More Soul.
- Encourage mothers who have been harmed by abortion
to bring suits against the abortion industry. For advice, call 1-800-634-2224
(American Rights Coalition) or 1-800-U-CAN-SUE (Legal Action for Women).
- Work for legislation to be initiated on the state
level expanding women's rights to sue for abortion damages, or requiring
abortionists to buy malpractice insurance. Contact pro-life legal agencies
for advice, such as Americans United for Life, 312-786-9494.
- Get pro-life programs onto local cable T.V. stations
by producing your own or contacting Life Matters Production, P.O. Box 565, Lincoln Park, MI 48146.
- Start a pro-life website and visit others to keep
abreast of events, legislation, etc.
